সহজ পদ্ধতিতে শিখুন ইংরেজী গ্রামার - Changing Sentences (Part-04)

আমাদের দেশের অধিকাংশ শিক্ষার্থী ইংরেজীকে প্রচন্ড রকমের ভয় পায়। এজন্য ইংরেজীর দুর্বলতা কাটিয়ে উঠতে পারে না। তাদের এই দুর্বলতা ও ভয় দূর করার লক্ষে আমরা ইংরেজী গ্রামারে একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশ Changing Sentences আজকের এই আলোচনায় সহজ ও সাবলীল ভাষায় উপস্থাপন করার চেষ্টা করেছি। Changing Sentences-এর নিয়মগুলো খুব সহজ পদ্ধতিতে নিম্নে উপস্থাপন করা হল।

Compound to Complex

1.  And যুক্ত Compound Sentence-কে Complex Sentence-এ পরিণত করার নিয়ম— 

(a) And যুক্ত Compound Sentence-এর একটি Clause যদি অন্যটির কারণ বা সময় নির্দেশ করে, তবে উক্ত Compound Sentence-টিকে Complex Sentence-এ রূপান্তর করার সময় Sentence-এর প্রথমে Since/As/When বসে + প্রথম clause বসে + and-এর পরিবর্তে comma (,) কমা বসে + দ্বিতীয় Clause-টি বসে।

উল্লেখ্য: কারণ বোঝালে since/as বসে এবং সময় বোঝালে when বসে। Complex Sentence-এ দুটি Clause-এই Subject বসাতে হয়।

• Compound: The writer was poor and could not taste caviare.
  Complex: Since the writer was poor, he could not taste caviare.

• Compound: The dog lay close to him and found a comfort there.
  Complex: When the dog lay close to him, it found a comfort there.

(b) And যুক্ত Compound Sentence-টির প্রথম Clause-টি শর্ত বুঝালে Complex Sentence-এ পরিণত করার সময় প্রথমে If বসে + Subject বসে + প্রথম Clause-টি বসে + and-এর পরিবর্তে comma (,) কমা বসে + অপর Clause-টি বসে।

• Compound: Work hard and you will shine in life.
  Complex: If you work hard, you will shine in life.

2.  But যুক্ত Compound Sentence-কে Complex Sentence-এ রূপান্তর করতে হলে Sentence-এর প্রথমে Though/Although বসে + প্রথম Clause-টি বসে + but-এর পরিবর্তে কমা (,) বসে + দ্বিতীয় clause-টি বসে।

• Compound: Hasan ran fast but could not reach in time.
  Complex: Though Hasan ran fast, he could not reach in time.

3.  Or যুক্ত Compound Sentence-কে Complex Sentence-এ রূপান্তর করার সময় প্রথমে If বসে + Subject বসে + do not/does not বসে + প্রথম Clause-টি বসে + Or-এর পরিবর্তে comma (,) বসে + দ্বিতীয় Clause-টি বসে।

• Compound: Work hard or you cannot prosper in life.
  Complex: If you do not work hard, you cannot prosper in life.

4.  সময় বা কাল বোঝাতে It দ্বারা সূচিত Compound Sentence-কে Complex-এ পরিবর্তন করার নিয়ম– শুরুতে When বসে + It যুক্ত Clause-টি বসে + and–এর পরিবর্তে comma (,) বসে + অন্য Clause-টি বসে।

• Compound: It was winter and I was in Paris.
  Complex: When it was winter, I was in Paris.

• Compound: It was 1952 and many students sacrificed their lives for the mother-tongue.
  Complex: When it was 1952, many students sacrificed their lives for the mother-tongue.

5.  Very/great ....... and যুক্ত Compound Sentence-এর প্রথম Clause-এ verb-এর পর যদি very/great + adjective থাকে এবং পরবর্তী Clause-টি যদি Negative হয় তাহলে Complex-এ রূপান্তর করতে হলে Very/great-এর পরিবর্তে so এবং and এর পরিবর্তে that বসাতে হয়।

• Compound: He was very lazy and he could not succeed in life.
  Complex: He was so lazy that he could not succeed in life.

• Compound: Muktadir is great liar and he has no friend.
  Complex: Muktadir is so liar that he has no friend.

6.  So and so যুক্ত Compound Sentence-এর প্রথম Clause-টি যদি পরবর্তী Clause-টির কাজের ফলাফল স্বরূপ হয়ে থাকে তবে তাকে Complex-এ পরিবর্তন করতে হলে কারণ নির্দেশক Clause-এর প্রথমে since/as/because বসে + so and so –এর পরিবর্তে comma (,) বসে + দ্বিতীয় Clause-টি বসে।

• Compound: He was weak so and so he could not walk fast.
  Complex: As/Since he was weak, he could not walk fast.
  Or, He could not walk fast as/since/because he was weak.
