সহজ পদ্ধতিতে শিখুন ইংরেজী গ্রামার - Changing Sentences (Part-07)

আমাদের দেশের অধিকাংশ শিক্ষার্থী ইংরেজীকে প্রচন্ড রকমের ভয় পায়। এজন্য ইংরেজীর দুর্বলতা কাটিয়ে উঠতে পারে না। তাদের এই দুর্বলতা ও ভয় দূর করার লক্ষে আমরা ইংরেজী গ্রামারে একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশ Changing Sentences আজকের এই আলোচনায় সহজ ও সাবলীল ভাষায় উপস্থাপন করার চেষ্টা করেছি। Changing Sentences-এর নিয়মগুলো খুব সহজ পদ্ধতিতে নিম্নে উপস্থাপন করা হল।

Complex to Compound

1. Since/As/When যুক্ত Complex Sentence-কে Compound Sentence-এ পরিবর্তনের সময় Since/As/When উঠে যায়। দুটি Clause-এর মাঝে and বসে। আর কোন পরিবর্তন হয় না।

• Complex: Since the situation was deadly, he could not continue his work.
  Compound: The situation was deadly and he could not continue his work.

2.  Though/Although যুক্ত Complex Sentence-কে Compound Sentence-এ পরিবর্তনের ক্ষেত্রে Though/Although উঠে যায় + though/although পরবর্তী Clause-টি বসে + but বসে + দ্বিতীয় Clause-টি বসে।

• Complex: Though he tried hard, he could not succeed.
  Compound: He tried hard but could not succeed.

3. If যুক্ত Complex Sentence-টি Negative অর্থবোধক হলে Compound Sentence-এ পরিবর্তনের সময় If এবং not উঠে গিয়ে Clause-টি Affirmative হয় + or বসে + অপর Clause-টি বসে।

• Complex : If you do not work, you will fail.
  Compound : Work or you will fail.

তবে If যুক্ত Complex Sentence-টি Affirmative অর্থবোধক হলে Compound Sentence-এ পরিবর্তনের সময় If উঠে গিয়ে Clause-টি বসে + or বসে + অপর Clause-টি বসে।

• Complex : If you run fast, you can get the train.
  Compound : Run fast and you can get the train.

4. So ………… that যুক্ত Complex Sentence-কে Compound করার সময় So-এ পরিবর্তে very এবং that-এর পরিবর্তে and বসে। অন্য কোন পরিবর্তন হয় না।

• Complex : The girl is so weak that he cannot speak.
  Compound : The girl is very weak and he cannot speak.

• Complex : The problem was so difficult that I could not solve it.
  Compound : The problem was very difficult and I could not solve it.

5. So that যুক্ত Complex Sentence-কে Compound Sentence-এ রূপান্তর করার সময়—প্রথম Clause-টি বসে + so that-এর পরিবর্তে and বসে + Subject ও Modal (can/could/may/might) উঠে গিয়ে তার পরিবর্তে Tense অনুযায়ী want to/wanted to বসে + বাকি অংশ বসে।

• Complex : He walked fast so that he could get the train.
  Compound : He wanted to get the train and so he walked fast.

6. Relative Pronoun যুক্ত Complex Sentence-কে Compound করার সময় Relative Pronoun-টি তুলে দিয়ে দুটি Clause-এর মাঝে and বসাতে হয়।

• Complex : I am glad that you have come.
  Compound : You have come and I am glad of it.

• Complex : He bought a pen which is red.
  Compound : He bought a pen and it was red.

• Complex : We know that he is intelligent.
  Compound : He is intelligent and we know it.

• Complex : I am sure that he will come.
  Compound : He will come and I am sure of it.

• Complex : The boy declared that he was innocent.
  Compound : The boy was innocent and he declared it.
