সহজ পদ্ধতিতে শিখুন ইংরেজী গ্রামার - Changing Sentences (Part-06)

আমাদের দেশের অধিকাংশ শিক্ষার্থী ইংরেজীকে প্রচন্ড রকমের ভয় পায়। এজন্য ইংরেজীর দুর্বলতা কাটিয়ে উঠতে পারে না। তাদের এই দুর্বলতা ও ভয় দূর করার লক্ষে আমরা ইংরেজী গ্রামারে একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশ Changing Sentences আজকের এই আলোচনায় সহজ ও সাবলীল ভাষায় উপস্থাপন করার চেষ্টা করেছি। Changing Sentences-এর নিয়মগুলো খুব সহজ পদ্ধতিতে নিম্নে উপস্থাপন করা হল।

Simple to Compound

• Simple: Drinking water, he wanted to save money.
  Compound: He drank water and wanted to save money.

• Simple: Seeing the police, the thief ran away.
  Compound: The thief saw the police and ran away.

উল্লেখ্য: Being যুক্ত অংশে Subject না থাকলে একই Subject ‘being’ অংশের প্রথমে বসে।

• Simple: Being truthful, he could not tell a lie.
  Compound: He was truthful and could not tell a lie.

• Simple: The weather being cold, they had to stay at home.
  Compound: The weather was cold and they had to stay at home.

3.  Perfect Participle যুক্ত Simple Sentence-কে Compound Sentence-এ পরিবর্তন করার ক্ষেত্রে Subject বসে + Perfect Participle-এর Past Perfect form বসে + and বসে + বাকি অংশ বসে।

• Simple: Having forgotten him, I went out.
  Compound: I had forgotten him and went out.

4.  Too …… to যুক্ত Simple Sentence-কে Compound Sentence-এ পরিবর্তন করার ক্ষেত্রে Too-এর জায়গায় very বসে, এরপর to-এর পূর্ব পর্যন্ত অংশে কোনো পরিবর্তন হয় না + to-এর স্থলে and বসে + পুনরায় Subject বসে + Tense অনুযায়ী cannot/could not বসে + to-এর পরের অংশ থেকে শেষ পর্যন্ত বসে।

• Simple: He is too weak to walk.
  Compound: He is very weak and he cannot walk.

5.  Because of যুক্ত Simple Sentence-কে Compound Sentence-এ রূপান্তর করতে হলে— Because of ও Subject-এর Possessive form থাকলে উঠে যাবে; সেখানে Principal Clause-এর Subject-টি বসবে; Principal clause-এর Tense অনুযায়ী ও Subject-এর Number ও Person অনুযায়ী being থাকলে am/is/are/was/were-এর যেকোনো একটি বসবে; having থাকলে have/has/had এর সঠিকটি বসবে; তারপর Phrase-এর বাকি অংশ বসবে; Comma উঠে and বসবে; Main clause-এর subject ছাড়া বাকী অংশ বসবে।

• Simple: Because of his being weak, he can not work hard.
  Compound: He is weak and can not work hard.

Note: Possessive-এর পরে Noun থাকলেও Principal clause-এর Finite verb-এর Tense অনুযায়ী am/is/are/was/were বা have/has/had বসাতে হবে। am/is/are/was/were-এর পরে adjective বসবে।

• Simple: Because of my illness, I could not attend the class.
  Compound: I was ill and (so) I could not attend the class.

6.  By + Gerund যুক্ত Simple Sentence-কে Compound Sentence-এ রূপান্তর করতে হলে— By এবং Verb-এর ing উঠে গিয়ে Verb-টি বসবে + Comma-এর পূর্ব পর্যন্ত বাকী অংশ বসবে + Comma-এর পরিবর্তে and বসবে + বাকী অংশ বসবে।

• Simple: By working hard, you will succeed in life.
  Compound: Work hard and you will succeed in life.

7.  Without + Gerund যুক্ত Simple Sentence-কে Compound Sentence-এ রূপান্তর করতে হলে— Without এবং Verb-এর ing উঠে গিয়ে Verb-টি বসবে + Comma-এর পূর্ব পর্যন্ত বাকী অংশ বসবে + Comma-এর পরিবর্তে Or বসবে + বাকী অংশ বসবে।

• Simple: Without working hard, you can not prosper in life.
  Compound: Work hard or you can not prosper in life.

8.  At, in, on ইত্যাদি Preposition-এর পরে সময় (স্বল্প সময়/ঋতু/বয়স ইত্যাদি) যুক্ত Simple Sentence-কে Compound Sentence-এ পরিবর্তনের নিয়ম-- Sentence-এর প্রথমে It বসে + Tense অনুযায়ী to be verb বসে + সময় নির্দেশক Word-টি বসে + and বসে + Main Clause-টি বসে।

• Simple: The cuckoo sings in spring.
  Compound: It is spring and The cuckoo sings.

9.  At the time of বা In the moments of-এর পরে Possessive Pronoun + verb + ing form যোগে গঠিত Simple Sentence-কে Compound Sentence-এ পরিবর্তনের নিয়ম-- At the time of বা In the moment of উঠে গিয়ে প্রথমে Possessive-এর Subjective form বসে (Possessive না থাকলে It বসে) + Finite verb-এর Tense অনুযায়ী to be verb বসে + Present Participle অর্থাৎ verb-এর ing form বসে + বাকি অংশ অপরিবর্তিত থাকে + and বসে + অন্য clause-টি বসে।

• Simple: At the time of his digging the earth, a snake came out.
  Compound: He was digging the earth and a snake came out.

• Simple: At the time of raining, I was at school.
  Compound: It was raining and I was at school.

10.  In spite of/Despite যুক্ত Simple Sentence-এর পরে Possessive case থাকলে তাকে Compound Sentence-এ পরিবর্তনের নিয়ম-- In spite of/Despite উঠে গিয়ে Possessive-এর Subjective form বসে + Verb বসে + Noun-এর Adjective form বসে + but বসে + অন্য Clause-টি বসে।

• Simple: Despite his poverty, he paid his dues regularly.
  Compound: He was poor but he paid his dues regularly.

• Simple: In spite of being old, he was young at heart.
  Compound: He was old but he was young at heart.

11.  In spite of/Despite-এর পর যদি ing যুক্ত Impersonal Verb থাকে তবে Structure-টি হবে-- In spite of অথবা Despite উঠে গিয়ে It বসে + to be verb বসে + Comma (,)-এর পূর্বের অংশ বসে + Comma-এর (,) স্থলে but বসে + Comma-এর পরের অংশ বসে।

• Simple: Despite raining, they visited the flood affected area.
  Compound: It was raining but they visited the flood-affected area.

12.  Subject + verb + to/in order to + verb যুক্ত Simple Sentence-কে Compound Sentence-এ রূপান্তর করার নিয়ম-- To/in order to-এর পূর্ববর্তী বাক্যাংশ অপরিবর্তিত থাকে + to বা in order to-এর পরিবর্তে and বসে + to/in order to-এর পরবর্তী Verb পূর্ববর্তী Clause-এর Verb-এর Tense অনুযায়ী বসে + বাকী অংশ বসে।

N.B.: Sentence-টি Imperative হলে দ্বিতীয় Clause-টি Simple Future Tense-এ পরিবর্তিত হয়।

• Simple: Work hard in order to succeed in life.
  Compound: Work hard and you will succeed in life.

N.B.: In order to বা to-এর পূর্ববর্তী Verb-এর Tense অনুযায়ী and-এর পরে want to বা wanted to দ্বারা দ্বিতীয় clause-টি গঠন করা যায়। যেমন—

• Simple: He went to market to buy a book.
  Compound: He went to market and wanted to buy a book.

• Simple: We eat in order to live.
  Compound: We eat and want to live.

13.  Both………and যুক্ত Simple Sentence-কে Compound Sentence-এ পরিবর্তনের নিয়ম-- Sentence-এর সব কিছু অপরিবর্তিত থাকে। শুধু Both-এর স্থলে not only এবং and-এর স্থলে but also ব্যবহার হয়।

• Simple: He is both honest and polite.
  Compound: He is not only honest but also polite.

14.  Participle যুক্ত Simple Sentence-এর Participle-কে সম্প্রসারিত করে অধিকাংশ সময় 'and'-এর সাহায্যে Co-ordinate Clause গঠন করে এ জাতীয় বাক্যকে Compound Sentence-এ পরিবর্তন করতে হয়। 

• Simple: I went back to work closing the door.
  Compound: I closed the door and went back to work.

• Simple: I went outside the cabin, having forgotten him.
  Compound: I forgot him and went outside the cabin.

15.  Adjective যুক্ত কিছু Simple Sentence-কে Compound Sentence-এ রূপান্তরঃ

• Simple: He bought a nice dress.
  Compound: He bought a dress and it was nice.

• Simple: We helped a poor man.
  Compound: We helped a man and he was poor.

• Simple: She bought a costly mobile phone.
  Compound: She bought a mobile phone and it was costly.

• Simple: The girl sang a sweet Islami song.
  Compound: The girl sang a Islami song and it was sweet.

• Simple: I took care of the orphan boy.
  Compound: The boy was orphan and I took care of him.
