সহজ পদ্ধতিতে শিখুন ইংরেজী গ্রামার - Changing Sentences (Part-05)

আমাদের দেশের অধিকাংশ শিক্ষার্থী ইংরেজীকে প্রচন্ড রকমের ভয় পায়। এজন্য ইংরেজীর দুর্বলতা কাটিয়ে উঠতে পারে না। তাদের এই দুর্বলতা ও ভয় দূর করার লক্ষে আমরা ইংরেজী গ্রামারে একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশ Changing Sentences আজকের এই আলোচনায় সহজ ও সাবলীল ভাষায় উপস্থাপন করার চেষ্টা করেছি। Changing Sentences-এর নিয়মগুলো খুব সহজ পদ্ধতিতে নিম্নে উপস্থাপন করা হল।

Simple to Complex

1.  Present Participle (Verb + ing) যুক্ত Simple Sentence-কে Complex Sentence-এ রূপান্তর করার নিয়ম-- প্রথম Clause-এর শুরুতে Since/As/When বসে + Subject বসে + Finite Verb বসে + Clause-দুটির মাঝে comma (,) বসে। 

[Note: কারণ বুঝালে since/as এবং সময় বুঝালে when বসে, Clause-দুটির Tense ও Subject একই হয়।]

• Simple: Going to market Tanvir bought a pen.
• Complex: When Tanvir went to market, he bought a pen.

• Simple: Committing the crime he was punished.
• Complex: Since/As he committed the crime, he was punished.

2.  Being যুক্ত Simple Sentence-কে Complex Sentence–এ পরিণত করতে হলে প্রথম Clause-এর শুরুতে Since/As/When বসে + Subject বসে + Verb বসে + Clause-দুটির মাঝে comma (,) বসে। 

[Note: কারণ বুঝালে since/as এবং সময় বুঝালে when বসে, Clause-দুটির Tense একই হয়, Being যুক্ত Clause–টিতে Subject না থাকলে একই Subject দুটি Clause–এ বসে।]

• Simple: Being guilty, he ran away.
• Complex: Since/As he was guilty, he ran away.

• Simple: Being a grown up man, he started working hard.
• Complex: When he was a grown up man, he started working hard.

3.  Too ……... to যুক্ত Simple Sentence-কে Complex Sentence–এ পরিণত করার সময় too-এর পরিবর্তে so বসিয়ে to-এর পূর্ব পর্যন্ত বসাতে হয় + to উঠে গিয়ে that বসে + Subject বসে + tense অনুযায়ী cannot/could not বসে + বাকি অংশ বসে।

• Simple: Tahmina is too weak to work any more.
• Complex: Tahmina is so weak that she cannot work any more.

• Simple: He is too dishonest for us to honour.
• Complex: He is so dishonest that we cannot honour him.

4.  In order to বা to (উদ্দেশ্য) যুক্ত Simple Sentence–কে Complex করার জন্য প্রদত্ত Sentence–এর প্রথম থেকে in order to বা to-এর পূর্ব পর্যন্ত বসে + in order to বা to-এর পরিবর্তে so that/ in order that/ that বসে + প্রথম Subject-এর Pronoun বসে + Tense অনুযায়ী may/can অথবা might/could বসে + to-এর পরের অংশ বসে।

• Simple: We eat to live.
• Complex: We eat so that we may live.

• Simple: He reads more in order to make a good result.
• Complex: He read more so that he can make a good result.

5.  In spite of/Despite যুক্ত Simple Sentence-কে Complex-এ পরিবর্তন করতে হলে In spite of-এর পরিবর্তে Though/Although বসে + Subject বসে + tense অনুযায়ী being-এর পরিবর্তে am/is/are/was/were বা having-এর পরিবর্তে have/has/had বা মূল verb বসে + adjective/noun বসে + comma (,) বসে + অপর Clause-টি বসে।

• Simple: In spite of his working hard, he could not succeed.
• Complex: Though he worked hard, he could not succeed.

• Simple: In spite of my being truthful, they did not believe me.
• Complex: Though I was truthful, they did not believe me.

6.  Because of যুক্ত Simple Sentence-কে Complex-এ পরিবর্তন করতে হলে প্রথমে Since/As বসে + Subject বসে + Tense অনুযায়ী Verb বসে + Adjective/Noun বসে + Comma (,) বসে + অপর Clause-টি বসে।

• Simple: Because of having much money, he could buy the car.
• Complex: Since/As he had much money, he could buy the car.

• Simple: He was punished because of his breaking the law.
• Complex: He was punished since/as he broke the law.

7.  যদি কোনো Simple Sentence–এ in the morning, in the evening, in the afternoon, at night, in the spring, in winter, in autumn ইত্যাদি থাকে, তাহলে tense অনুযায়ী উপরের phrases-গুলোর পূর্বে when it is/was বসে + যে phrase-টি দেওয়া থাকে সে phrase টি বসে।

• Simple: The cuckoo sings in spring.
• Complex: The cuckoo sings when it is spring.

8.  তবে যদি Simple Sentence-এ at the time of থাকে, উক্ত Simple Sentence-কে Complex-এ রূপান্তর করার সময় at the time of-এর পরিবর্তে when বসে।

• Simple: He woke up at the time of raining.
• Complex: He woke up when it was raining.

• Simple: He called me at the time of reading.
• Complex: He called me when I was reading.

9.  By + gerund (verb + ing) যুক্ত Simple Sentence-কে Complex Sentence-এ রূপান্তর করার নিয়ম-- By-এর স্থানে Sentence-এর শুরুতে If বসে + পরবর্তী Clause-এর Subject বসে + পরবর্তী Clause-এর Verb (Finite verb)-এর Tense অনুযায়ী Gerund-এর verb রূপ বসে + Gerund-এর পর হতে বাকি অংশ অপরিবর্তিত থাকে। তবে clause দুটির মাঝে comma (,) দিতে হবে।

• Simple: By eating a balanced diet, you can keep fit.
• Complex: If you eat balanced diet, you can keep fit.

• Simple: By reading newspaper, you can know many things.
• Complex: If you read newspaper, you can know many things.

10.  Without + gerund/ noun অথবা Prepositional phrase যেমন—In case of, in the event of ইত্যাদি যুক্ত Simple Sentence-কে Complex Sentence-এ রূপান্তর করার নিয়ম-- Without/In case of/In the event of-এর পরিবর্তে If বসে + Possessive form-এর Subjective রূপ বসে + দ্বিতীয় Clause-এর Tense অনুযায়ী do not বা did not বসে + gerund (verb + ing)-এর ing উঠিয়ে দিয়ে verb বসে + gerund-এর পরবর্তী অংশ অপরিবর্তিতভাবে বসে। তবে clause দুটির মাঝে comma (,) বসে।

• Simple: Without working hard you cannot prosper in life.
• Complex: If you do not work hard, you cannot prosper in life.

• Simple: In case of your playing in the rain, you may catch cold.
• Complex: If you play in the rain, you may catch cold.

More Rules

11.  Sub + Present Participle যুক্ত Simple Sentence-কে Complex Sentence-এ পরিণত করার সময় প্রথমে Subject বসে + Relative pronoun who/which/that (মানুষের ক্ষেত্রে who/that বসে এবং বস্তু বা প্রাণির ক্ষেত্রে which/that বসে) বসে + Tense অনুযায়ী Auxiliary verb বসে + প্রদত্ত Present Participle (ing যুক্ত verb-টি) বসে + Sentence-এর বাক্য অংশ বসে।

• Simple: The boy playing in the field is my cousin.
• Complex: The boy who is playing in the field is my cousin.

12. কিন্তু Subject–এর পরের verb-টি যদি Past Participle–এর অর্থ প্রকাশ করে তবে উক্ত Simple Sentence-টিকে Complex Sentence–এ রুপান্ত করার সময় প্রথমে Subject বসে + Relative pronoun (who/which/that) বসে + Tense অনুযায়ী auxiliary verb বসে + প্রদত্ত Past Participle থেকে Sentence–এর বাকি অংশ বসে।

•  Simple: The car imported from Japan is running well.
• Complex: The car which has been imported from Japan is running well.

• Simple: The stolen mobile was found.
• Complex: The mobile which was stolen was found.

13.  Subject + verb + Present participle + object যুক্ত Simple Sentence-কে Complex Sentence-এ রূপান্তরের ক্ষেত্রে Subject + Verb + Object বসে + Object-এর Relative pronoun বসে + Tense ও Relative pronoun অনুযায়ী Be verb বসে + Present Participle সহ বাকি অংশ বসে।

• Simple: I saw a flying bird.
• Complex: I saw a bird which was flying.

তবে Pronominal Object (me, us, you, him, them, her) থাকলে নিয়মটি হবে নিম্নরূপ– Subject + Verb + that/when + Object-টির Subjective form + Tense অনুযায়ী Be verb + Present Participle সহ বাকি অংশ।

• Simple: I saw him going to market.
• Complex: I saw that he was going to market.

14.  Subject + Verb + Adjective + Noun যুক্ত Simple Sentence-কে Complex করতে হলে– Subject + Verb বসে + Noun বসে + Noun-এর Relative pronoun বসে + Tense ও Noun অনুযায়ী Be verb বসে + Adjective-টি বসে।

• Simple: I saw a blind man.
• Complex: I saw a man who was blind.

• Simple: Halim bought a very nice pen.
• Complex: Halim bought a pen which was very nice.

তবে Adjective-টি Subject-কে Qualify করলে নিচের নিয়মটি অনুসরণ করতে হয়– It + Tense অনুযায়ী Be Verb + Subject + Subject-এর Relative pronoun + verb + Adjective।

• Simple: Suhan is a brilliant student.
• Complex: It is Suhan who is a brilliant student.

• Simple: Knowledge is power.
• Complex: It is knowledge which is power.

15.  Subject + verb + object + to be + ……. যুক্ত Simple Sentence-কে Complex Sentence-এ রূপান্তর করতে হলে– subject + verb বসে + that বসে + object-এর Subject রূপ বসে + tense অনুযায়ী auxiliary verb বসে + adjective বসে।

• Simple: I know him to be honest.
• Complex: I know that he is honest.

• Simple: They knew him to be a talkative.
• Complex: They knew that he was a talkative.

16.  Simple Sentence-এর Infinitive, gerund অথবা কোনো noun-কে that-এর সাহায্যে Noun Clause-এ রূপান্তরিত করে Complex Sentence করা হয় ------ প্রথম থেকে gerund/Infinitive বা Noun phrase-এর পূর্ব পর্যন্ত বসে + that বসে + subject টি পুনরায় বসে + প্রদত্ত sentence-টি Present tense-এর স্থলে Complex করার সময় প্রদত্ত infinitive/gerund বা noun phrase-এর Future tense হয় আর Past tense-এ থাকলে Present perfect tense হয়।

• Simple: I am sure of passing.
• Complex: I am sure that I shall pass.

• Simple: I was glad to hear of your success.
• Complex: I was glad to hear that you have succeeded.

17.  Both …… and যুক্ত Simple Sentence-কে Complex-এ পরিবর্তন করার নিয়মঃ It + verb “to be” + Subject + Relative Pronoun + প্রদত্ত Sentence-এর Subject বাদে বাকি অংশ।

• Simple: He is both honest and polite.
• Complex: It is he who is both honest and polite.

উপরিউক্ত Simple Sentence-টি Besides দ্বারা থাকলে একেইভাবে Complex করা যায়। যেমন—

• Simple: Besides honesty he is polite.
• Complex: It is he who is both honest and polite.
